Strong winds damage homes in several dzongkhags

House damaged by strong wind in Samdrup Jongkhar

Strong winds damaged homes and crops in four gewogs of Pema Gatshel, last afternoon. The roofs of seven houses in Dechhenling Gewog and two houses in Mikuri village in Dungmin Gewog were blown-off. 

The wind is also reported to have caused some damage to orange and areca nut orchards in Norboogang and Chhoekhorling Gewogs.

In Samdrup Jongkhar, about 52 houses have been damaged by the yesterday’s windstorm. Most of the houses lost their roofs to the wind. The affected gewogs are Phuentshogthang, Samrang, Pemathang and Martshala.

Meanwhile, the windstorm has affected 18 households in four Gewogs- Radhi, Kanglung, Udzorong and Shongphu under Trashigang Dzongkhag. The windstorm, which occurred around 2:45 pm has completely blown-off the roofs of three houses including the community Lhakhang of Tongling Chiwog under Radhi Gewog. The disaster management focal person of the Dzongkhag along with insurance officials visited the affected areas to assess the damages.

In Zhemgang, roofs of three houses in Khomshar Chiwog under Bardo Gewog were blown-off yesterday.

There were no reports of human causality and major damages.

Gewog officials have submitted the report to the Dzongkhag authority.
