Chhuzanggang-internet- The people of Chhuzanggang Gewog in Sarpang embraced the arrival of information and communication technology in their community. The gewog got its first ever internet and Wi-Fi connection on Sunday.

The READ Bhutan centre at Chhuzanggang was connected to one Megabyte of internet speed and 600 metre radius of Wi-Fi. The centre, which started one and a half year ago, has benefitted the community and now with the new technology in the gewog, people are expected to benefit even more from it.

Chhuzanggang’s Gup Sangay Tshering said the facility will benefit other gewogs as well. “…it will also be helpful to the gewog administration whenever we have to communicate instantly.”Chhuzanggang-internet

A resident of the gewog, Tshewang Lhamo said they had to travel all the way to Gelegphu town. “Now sending documents will be fast and easy,” she said.

To encourage the students to read, the centre will make it compulsory for students to read anything for at least 15 minutes before using internet services.

The field coordinator, Ganesh Chhetri, said other centres in the country will also be connected with internet soon. “We will provide awareness on computer house-keeping and in future there will be various programmes including trainings from basic to intermediary for the students as well as the elderly people who are interested.”
