NA-Thimphu Taxi-AssociationTo retain taxi parking at the earlier site was one of the issues submitted by the Taxi Association in Thimphu to the government. In the question hour session of the National Assembly today, the Boomdeling-Jamkhar MP Dupthob asked the Minister for Information and Communications on what the government is doing to resolve this issue.

According to Lyonpo DN Dungyel, the earlier taxi parking site legally belongs to the Tashi Commercial Corporation.

He informed the house that Thimphu Thromde has already written to the National Land Commission to allow them to acquire the previous taxi parking area, and look for a substitute land for Tashi Commercial Corporation.

The Ministry is also currently studying the Taxi Associations’ plea to increase the lifespan of taxis from eight to 10 years.

The Ministry is also looking at the safety of the taxis if they are to increase the lifespan, Lyonpo said.

As of now they allow six additional months after the 8th year.

The Ministry is also looking at all the issues submitted by the Taxi Association.
