A deeper look at GNHAn international programme themed- Experience Gross National Happiness in Bhutan: From contemplation to action- is underway in Paro. The opening day of the programme yesterday was held in Thimphu. Organised by the GNH Centre Bhutan, the programme is being attended by international participants and some 70 local youth.

Dr. Saamdu Chetri, the Executive Director of the GNH Centre Bhutan said the programme aims to promote the understanding of GNH at a deeper level.

“We are trying to take international participants into understanding GNH. …We take them around to see things for themselves and reflect from within their own environment and see how or what things they can bring back to their own context,” said Dr. Saamdu Chetri.

Dr. Saamdu Chetri also explained why youth are being involved in the programme. “…It’s so very important for our youth to understand the world outside because they think America and Australia is a place to go and live but when they hear from our international participants what their life is all about they will realise how happy we are in our own country.”

The eight day programme, which opened yesterday in Thimphu, is being continued in Paro from today.
