Thimphu experienced the coldest night on December 17. The temperature dipped to -7.5 degree Celsius. The Meteorology Division of Department of Hydro-Met Services says that it was the lowest minimum temperature recorded in the last three years.

A Senior Meteorologist, Tayba Buddha Tamang, said the drop in the temperature is probably due to cold wave that is prevailing in North India. “We recorded persistently cold temperature in end of December.”

He said temperature in January has also been constantly low. “Thimphu might experience colder days if the is consistent drop in temperature continues.”
