Bhutan appoints its first women Ambassadors

For the first time in the history of Bhutan, two women have been appointed as the Ambassadors of Bhutan. According to a press release from the foreign ministry Kunzang C. Namgyel has been appointed as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. She joined the foreign ministry in 1980 and has served in various capacities in Thimphu, Kathmandu and Geneva.

BBS has also learnt that Pema Choden, the former Managing Director of the Bhutan Broadcasting Service, has been appointed as the Ambassador to Dhaka. She has served as the Chief of Bilateral Department for Europe, America, and Africa Division. She has also served in various capacities in Dhaka and Geneva.
