Labour Minister, Ngeema Sangay TshempoThe government’s overseas employment scheme for the youth is in full swing. They are planning to send the youth abroad by next month, according to the Labour Minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo.

Lyonpo also said the government has shortlisted seven applicants who have applied for the license to operate as oversea employment agents. He said these agents will negotiate on job opportunities offered by a host of countries identified by the government. The countries are Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and India.  “…We are going to issue clearance by the end of this month and by January we are looking forward to send people abroad through them.”

The Minister also said they have another scheme in the pipeline. “Where there is no agent in any country, we are trying to send by ourselves.”

The Labour Minister also said the government is looking into skills development of the youth before sending them to work abroad. “People just don’t accept our general graduates, class 10 or 12 pass.”
