Bhutan saw a minimum number of traffic violations and accidents, last year. The figure came down to 791 in 2014 from 1,023 in 2013, according to the statistics maintained with the Royal Bhutan Police.
The decreasing pattern shows more Bhutanese now have a better understanding of traffic rules and regulations.
The Officer-in-Command of the Traffic Division in Thimphu attributed the decrease in the figure to intensive patrolling, security awareness programs conducted in schools and good co-operations amongst the stakeholders.
However, Royal Bhutan Police forewarns that there could be an increased number of traffic violations, this year.
More than 1,500 new vehicles have already come in to the country after the ban on import of vehicles was lifted six months ago.
Bhutan has close to 70,000 vehicles at the moment.
The Officer-in-Command said drunk-driving was one the leading cause of accidents in the country.
