13 monks undergo basic computer courseThirteen monks from the Palden Tashicholing Shedra in Phuentshogling completed basic computer course. They would now be able to put to use five computers the Shedra had received through a Korean grant, last year. The computers, otherwise, were unused up until now.

A monk from the Shedra, Tshering Wangchuk said despite having an interest, they never got a chance to learn how to operate a computer.

But, after undergoing the three-month course, Tshering Wangchuk is confident that he can now use Microsoft office tools and more importantly, Dzongkha Unicode.

Youth Development Fund in Phuentsholing, that initiated the course, said the monks were given an hour’s class every day. They said, though majority of monks in Shedras, across the country, are within the youth age group, not many have access to youth oriented facilities.

YDF’s Programme Manager, Rinchen Tshering said the YDF will also be focusing on out-of-school youths for similar courses.

Phuentsholing Palden Tashicholing Shedra has 69 monks.
