Our fight is endless; ACC’s Chairperson tells her staffSpeaking at the 9th foundation day of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday, ACC’s Chairperson, Dasho Neten Zangmo said ACC has come a long way since its inception.

The Anti-Corruption Commission was established nine years ago, with just four people, including the Chairperson.

Dasho Neten Zangmo said they still have a long way to go. “Our fight is endless…”

The Chairperson also said ACC’s work help nation-building. “If corruption is not taken care of, democracy will be failure because corruption means injustice…”

Today, the ACC has 74 staff including the Chairperson and two commissioners.

“We have lot of challenges and one major challenge was the people, the human resource, people not coming to ACC to work,” said ACC’s Commissioner, Kezang Jamtsho.

The Commissioner said they handle about 500 complains, an average a year. “When complaints are dealt on timely basis then people get the perception that some complaints are left behind”.

He said the Kuensel online poll, on how effective ACC was in combating corruption, showed 80 percent were satisfied with ACC’s work. He said 20 percent felt that ACC has not done well.

“We will rededicate ourselves.” He said the celebration of the foundation day of ACC is to look back and see what they can do to improve further.

“The other aspect, which comes back, is the independence because the issue of manpower is also connected to, a certain level, the issue of independence.”

Among the cases ACC has handled, land, construction and procurement cases tops the list.
