HH-WinterResidenceAfter a customary night halt at Thinleygang, His Holiness the Je Khenpo, arrived at the Puna Dewa Chenpoi Phodrang in Punakha, this afternoon.

His Holiness is accompanied by the five Lopens of Zhung Dratshang and the monk body.

Thousands of devotees had lined up along the road from Khuruthang till Punakha to receive blessings from His Holiness.

Upon arrival in Punakha, His Holiness and the entourage were received by the Gups, and the sector head officials from Punakha dzongkhag.

Later, His Holiness was escorted in a chipdrel procession from Punakha Bazam. The Monk body entered the Puna Dewa Chenpoi Phodrang in a grand chipdrel procession.

His Holiness the Je Khenpo and the monk body will spend six months in Punakha and move back to Thimphu on the first day of the fourth Bhutanese month.

This tradition was introduced by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in the 17th century.
