The South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children (SAIEVAC) held its third technical consultation meeting in the capital. The meeting ended today.
The participants at the SAIEVAC consultation shared about their experiences and lessons learned. They also identified gaps and opportunities for eliminating harmful practices affecting children based on tradition, culture, religion and superstition.
The discussion also focused on early child marriage and corporal punishment. .
“The principle outcome that I hope to achieve out of this two day consultation is that we can come to clear agreement of understanding of what harmful practices are? What are those practices that are prevalent or are important for the south Asia” said SAIEVAC’s Director General, Dr Rinchen Chophel. He also said within the prospective of child marriage and corporal punishment, how can they address this as they move along, so that is the main outcome what I hope will come out.
The consultation was held in keeping with the recommendations of the third Governing Board Meeting of SAIEVAC held in Colombo, Sri Lanka last year.
