Parliament-DuesParliamentarians today questioned the Public Accounts Committee on why the outstanding irregularities and debt of the two political parties, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were still reflected in the Audit Report of 2012.

They say the two political parties have already cleared their debts last year. According to the audit report, DPT has the outstanding irregularities of over Nu. 600,000 and PDP has over 25 million as debt payable to the banks.

MP from Monggar’s Dramedtse-Ngatshang Constituency, Ugyen Wangdi, said the notification from the Election Commission dated August 31, 2012, states that the debts of the two political parties were cleared.

The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, Tharchen, said the Royal Audit Authority has audited the financial status of the two political parties from 2008 till June 2012.  He said the parties cleared their dues only after June 2012.

The parliament resolved that the Royal Audit Authority will audit the financial status of the two parties by next month and discuss on whether debts have been cleared or not in the next session of the parliament.
