Darla elects new Gup

DarlaGup-Mil-Kumar-MongarThe people of Darla once again went to the polls, yesterday. This time, it was to elect their Gup. Mil Kumar Mongar, 35, was elected the new Gup after securing 909 votes. The post had been vacant after the former Gup’s demise, last month.

Of the 4,725 eligible voters, about 37 percent turned out to cast their votes. The majority of them were male. The Gewog had three candidates contesting for the post.

The Gup-elect had previously worked as a site supervisor in one of the private construction companies. He studied till class X and has served as the Geydrung in the Gewog for five years.  He had also contested in the Local Government Elections in 2010 for the post of Mangmi.DarlaGup-PollDay

“As per the procedures and policy of the government, whatever developmental activities are planned, I will make sure that it is planned equally for all the Chiwogs by looking at the needs of the people,” said the new Gup.

Darla Gewog has six Chiwogs and 700 households.
