Menjay-School--LhuentseThe construction of Menjay School in Lhuentse has been severely affected by continuous land slide. The officials at the site said, only about 60-70 percent of the works have been completed.

The construction began since July 2010. It was to be completed within December last year. While many attribute the delay to the inappropriate location, there are a few who believe construction of retaining walls could have expedited the project.

The Project Engineer, Kencho Namgay, says the inappropriateness of the location say that the survey wasn’t conducted properly. They have already utilised about Nu. 185 million from the total Nu.190 million.

Kencho Namgay also said an area, just about 100  meters above the structures, had developed cracks. Also, continuous rainfall blocking the road and labour shortage are contributing to the delay in the completion of the project.

“We agree that the work has been delayed by about nine months now. But with the additional amount of work that we had to take undertake, it could have been longer,” said Kencho Namgay.

In the meantime, the teachers and students of the school have been using small huts as classrooms and accommodation.
