The Regional Revenue and Customs office in Phuentshogling confiscated 180 cartons of Spy wine this morning. The consignment, with each carton containing 24 bottles, was worth over Nu. 5,18,000.
The wine bottles were hidden inside milk powder boxes along with the milk powder. The importer had declared the consignment to be grocery items among other electronic appliances.
According to the Customs officials, because of such instances reported recently, the officials had become more vigilant especially with regard to third country imports.
The confiscated goods will be auctioned. This is as per the directives received from the Revenue and Customs department since the imposition of import ban on alcoholic beverages from third countries and India.
