4th Mountain Echoes gets underway

mOUTAINeCHOES-2013-OpeningEminent writers, artists, filmmakers, actors, environmentalists and journalists from Bhutan, India and other parts of world are taking part in Mountain Echoes. The Fourth Mountain Echoes, Bhutan’s festival of literature, arts and cultures was opened last evening at India House in the Capital.

Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, who is also the chief patron of the festival graced the opening ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Her Majesty said Mountain Echoes is a very special event for her and it is encouraging to see Bhutan’s participation getting more diverse as well increasing in number. The Festival, the Queen Mother said, have become a time when Thimphu comes alive with prose, music, poetry and art.

This morning, Her Majesty talked about readings and reflections on Rainbows and Clouds with the festival director, Namita Gokhale.  Her Majesty is the author of “Treasures of the Thunder Dragon: A portrait of Bhutan” and “Of Rainbows and Clouds: the Life of Yab Ugyen Dorji as told to his daughter”.

The literary festival will also feature sessions with Indian novelists, filmmaker, actors, artists and journalists among others. The Mountain Echoes literary festival is an initiative of India Bhutan Foundation.
