Lyonchhen-and-National-Security-AdvisorThe National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon called on the Prime Minister, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang today. The Lyonchhen and the National Security Advisor discussed about the government of India’ commitment in rendering financial assistance for the 11th FYP and the Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP).

Lyonchhen presented the draft of the 11th FYP and the Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP). Lyonchhen said that the 11th FYP wasn’t adequate enough to address the current economic situation of the nation, which is why the present government devised the ESP.

The ESP directive is to increase liquidity schemes in banks which would allow loan provisions for private sectors and enhance youth employment. Lyonchhen said that these issues required immediate attention and the present government calls for GoI’s assistance and support to ensure that these issues are carefully and productively addressed.

“We’ll do everything we can to support and provide assistance to Bhutan. We really look forward to working together and achieving positive outcomes.” Mr. Menon said.

Mr. Menon assured Lyonchhen that GoI will support, assist and work together with Bhutan in a coordinated way.

Lyonchhen also expressed his gratitude toward the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, for sending him a letter of felicitation and assuring assistance in the 11th Five Year Plan.

The National Security Advisor and his delegation congratulated Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay on assuming office. Lyonchhen thanked and welcomed the delegation for visiting Bhutan at this critical time and wished them a very successful tenure.

Shivshankar Menon was accompanied by the Indian Foreign Secretary, Sujatha Singh, the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, V.P. Haran.
