Three men have been apprehended in connection with two Chortens vandalism in Yabrang, Trashigang. The vandalism apparently has taken place on July 27. The two men said they did vandalise a Chorten but not the current ones. They said they vandalised a chorten in 2012 and got nothing out of it.
Trashigang Dzongkhag registered 29 cases of Chorten vandalisms last year and 17 cases till July this year. The Superintendent of Police, Dorji Khandu, said the trend is going up because most of them think they would get Cat’s Eye or Dzee. Some of the culprits told police that they even vandalised about 4 to 5 Chortens but did not get anything from it.
