Her Majesty Queen Mother, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck-48 KM walk to raise fundsLed by Her Majesty Queen Mother, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck, around 300 volunteers took part in a sponsored walk in Paro, yesterday. The 48-kilometre walk was organised to raise funds for projects of the Bhutan Nuns Foundation.

The event began with the offering of Khadar and prayers by Her Majesty at Tamche Lhakhang in Dokar Gewog. A short prayer was also recited by nuns before the walk.

At 3 AM, with just the moonlight and torches to light the way, Her Majesty the Queen Mother led the walk. Along the way, members of the community also offered their contributions.

They walked through three historically religious sites; Tamche Lhakhang, Kichu Lhakhang and Lhai Ding.

Representatives from the three armed forces also offered their contributions at the Ugyen Pelri Palace, where the group halted for breakfast.

At around 6 PM, after 16 hours, they reached the final destination, Lhai Ding. Her Majesty offered prayers and lit butter lamps at the monastery.

A prayer ceremony, in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness, Ashi Kezang Wangmo Wangchuck, finally concluded the event.
