The Punakha Dzongkhag court has sentenced three men to prison terms ranging from four to six years on August 26. They were convicted for robbing several offices, schools and houses in Punakha Dzongkhag over the years.
They were charged for burglary, trespassing and related offences. According to the Penal Code of Bhutan the offence of burglary will be a felony of third or fourth degree.
A felony of third degree calls for a prison term of five to nine years and a felony of fourth degree calls for a prison term ranging from 3-5 years.
Our reporter Sonam Tobgyel says the parties to the case can file an appeal to the high court within 10 days from the Day of Judgment.
