Another Bhutanese man has been abducted, this time from the Datgiri Thursday market area in Assam. The market place is a few kilometres away from the Gelegphu border gate and is frequented by most of the Bhutanese living in Gelegphu. The incident took place on Thursday.

The 27-year-old man was last seen with some people from across the border, with whom he is friends with. He had taken his brother’s bike which was later recovered from the market area by the Gelegphu police.

The man lives in Thimphu but is from Chokhorling under Sarpang Dzongkahg. This is the fifth abduction case and the second to have taken place in the Indian Territory. The first one took place on June 27. The two men were released unharmed after paying an undisclosed amount as ransom on July 11.

The Gelegphu police are requesting people not to loiter around and the travellers to cooperate and move in groups. People travelling towards Bongaigaon, Panbang and Samdrup Jongkhar are requested not to take the shortcut from Deosiri and to be careful while travelimg along Gelegphu-Sarpang highway.
