The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) will submit a petition letter with 15 points to His Majesty the King. This was decided at the DPT party convention held in the capital, today.
Speaking to a hall packed with supporters, DPT’s Namgye Penjore, said the party came up with 15 points in their executive meeting. The Party’s executive meeting was held over the last two days. The first point was on corruption. The party says that PDP has always accused DPT of being corrupt, while the corruption-related cases were all before the formation of the DPT government. DPT also said during the election period, there were many cases of bribery and unlawful practices reported.
The petition will also include coalition of parties, unbalanced coverage by some media, involvement of NGOs, and the politicisation of Local Government Officials. The party will also bring up the non-participation of the PDP’s Khamaed-Lunana candidate in the public debate.
Namgye Penjore also said the Interim Government’s role was to ensure free and fair elections. “However it violated the rule when one of the members Dasho Karma Ura openly talked on issues in media which was later proven wrong.
The party says that they are concerned about he politicisation of the army and also about ballot rigging. The points include defamation and misuse of apolitical institutions.
DPT added that PDP arranged free transportation for voters as well. The supporters’ main concern was about the elections not having been free and fair. They added that the party should appeal to His Majesty the King instead of concerned authorities. And if the issues are not resolved, supporters have asked DPT’s elected members to resign.
The meeting then decided that 20 people comprising of party candidates, elderly people, women and youth will appeal to His Majesty the King in due course of time.
