The Supreme Court has upheld the High Court’s verdict on the Gyalpoizhing Land Allotment case concerning the former National Assembly Speaker, the former Home Minister and the 13 land allotment committee members.
The court order was issued, this afternoon.
The former National Assembly Speaker, Jigme Tshultim, is sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment. He has been convicted for official misconduct. He is guilty of allotting plots to 23 individuals including his maid. The former speaker was the then Monggar Dzongdag and the Chairman of the land allotment committee.
The former Home Minister, Minjur Dorji, and 13 other committee members are also sentenced to a year’s imprisonment for official misconduct. They had illegally allotted five plots to individuals and a religious institution in 2005 and 2006.
However, all who have been sentenced can pay Thrimthue or cash penalty in lieu of the sentence term.
