PDP-PressConfThe President of People’s Democratic Party, Tshering Tobgay, said Druk Phuensum Tshogpa as the opposition party will bring in lot of wisdom and experience to the parliament.

Asked on the expectations of DPT as the opposition party, Tshering Tobgay, said DPT as an opposition party will guide the ruling party in an effective manner.

“…DPT will bring in a lot of wisdom and experience to the parliament. As opposition, they can guide the ruling party very effectively because they have decades of experience in governance and law making.”

He also said they will look forward to cooperate positively with DPT within the constructive framework of checks and balances and they do believe democracy will triumph and benefit the people.

Answering to media’s question on why PDP won, the president said it is all about democratic choice that PDP won.

“The obvious answer is that people had a choice we had five parties, little down to  four in the primary round and finally people chose who Opposition Party  would be who Ruling Party would be.  So it’s a about democratic choice. So that answer should be that people have exercised the choice.  And that is why we won.”

The PDP president also expressed the party’s gratitude to His Majesty the King for steadfast support for the democratic process and congratulated the Election Commission of Bhutan for conducting the elections in a free and fair manner.
