Less voter turnout compared to 2008

2nd-National-Assembly-Parliamentary-GEneral-Eletions-2013The General Round of Second Parliamentary Elections saw overall voter turnout of 66.1 percent, much less compared to 2008 elections.The voter turnout during 2008 elections had been 80 percent.

Over 250,000 Bhutanese exercised their franchises this time, says the Election Commission of Bhutan.

The results were officially declared this morning. Of the total 381,790 registered voters, 208,594 votes were cast in person on the electronic voting machines and 44,259 votes through postal ballots. The overall voter turnout in the general election saw an increase of about 11 percent compared to the Primary Election which saw only about 55 percent of the total registered voters.
