PDP sweeps postal ballots

Postal-Ballot-PDP-SweepsUnlike the primary, the postal voters have opted for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the General Elections. PDP secured the highest number of postal ballots with about 58 percent, while DPT got about 41 percent.

The People’s Democratic Party secured 25,853 from 44,259 postal ballots. They secured the highest number of postal ballots from 38 constituencies. The postal ballots ensured PDP’s win by narrow margin in the four constituencies. In Khamaed-Lunana, DPT’s Kinley Dorji secured maximum votes in EVM. But when postal ballots were added, it was PDP’s Pema Drukpa who won by two votes difference.

Similarly, in Kanglung-Samkhar-Udzorong Constituency in Trashigang, PDP’s Norbu Wangchuk won by two votes. DPT’s Thinley Palden Dorji won by 286 votes in EVM. However, in postal ballots, PDP’s Norbu Wangchuk won by 288 votes.

DPT’s candidate of Monggar, Dewathang-Gomdar and Wamrong constituencies all won in EVM but lost when postal ballots were added.

The postal ballots ensured PDP’s win in five constituencies of Khamaed-Lunana, Kanglung-Samkhar-Udzorong, Monggar, Deothang-Gomdar and Wamrong.

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa managed to win nine constituencies with postal ballots securing 18,406 votes.

The ECB have issued close to 48,000 postal ballots including the overseas. There are more than 80,000 registered voters for postal ballots.
