TennisCourtreSurfacingThe Bhutan Tennis Federation is resurfacing its three existing courts in Thimphu to international standing.

According to Jan Van Paridon, a Sports Resurface Specialist from Holland, who is here to upgrade the tennis courts in Thimphu, the paints and materials used are the same as that of the materials used in the tennis courts of US and Australian open.

“Having upgraded the standard of the courts, the federation is short of one court to organise international tournaments,” said the Secretary General of the Federation, Ugyen Wangdi,

He told BBS that the federation has put up proposals to concerned authorities to acquire additional area to build a tennis court, which is still under process.

Bhutan Tennis Federation expects to hold junior and veteran category tournaments in future. The Federation should have minimum of four courts to organize such tournaments.

With the help of Bhutan Olympic Committee and International Tennis Federation, BTF will also upgrade tennis courts in other districts.
