Heated Debate- CommonForumAs the election debates broadcast LIVE on BBS are in full swing every evening, many viewers and observers say the candidates are involved in heated debate, often making personal and unethical remarks.

Yesterday in Monggar, it was a normal debate in the beginning, 10 minutes of presentation by each candidate. Both the candidates, PDP’s Jigme Zangpo and DPT’s Karma Lhamo were confident, expressive and spoke about their Party’s manifestos. Many commended on their competence, intellectual and confidence.

However, it was during the question and answer session that the candidates exchanged some heated remarks at each other.

Many viewers said the debate was dirty with personal attacks, trying to defame one another. Even on social media people commented that politics is getting dirty in Bhutan.

Some of the people said that it was not a right platform and that the candidates should not have stooped to that level.

Many also expressed concerns over the question raised by the audience. Viewers said the questions raised by the audience were all personal attacks and was unethical.  Some said the ones who asked questions were planted.

While most of the civil servants expressed grievance for not allowing to attend any of the political events, a few senior citizens expressed concerns over-dragging others’ names in petty politics.

All the people that BBS asked refused to speak on camera.
