Dr Tandi Dorji- DNTEven though Nyamrup’s seven candidates may crossover to other political party, the move will not deter Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) from contesting in the 2018 Elections, according to Party’s spokesperson, Dr. Tandi Dorji.

Many are speculating DNT’s future even as DNT’s candidates, including its president and the Vice-president move to People’s Democratic Party.

Dr. Tandi Dorji, said DNT as a party is well secured, neutral and is focusing on strengthening the party at the moment. “We are solely focused on strengthening our own party and building it as a political institution which we have always envisioned and we would like to build on our strengths and correct our weaknesses, analyze where we have gone wrong and hopefully penetrate and make our self more familiar with our electorates over the next five years.”

Maintaining that the decision of the candidates to join PDP has been taken at the individual level and that negotiation at the party level has closed, he said the focus DNT now is to come out stronger in the 2018 elections.

Asked if the seven candidates moving to other Party would negatively impact the image of DNT,  Dr. Tandi Dorji responded it would not. “For a healthy democracy to grow and as new emerging party and being one of the parties to have contested in the second parliamentary election, I think we should set a good example and precedence and therefore we must uphold the laws of this country.” He said if ECB allows it, people of Bhutan should be aware that DNT has not broken any laws and that they have not taken a decision at a party level.

In the meantime, the central executive committee of the party will meet once the elections are over to decide on the new interim president.
