The grant agreement for “PHRD Grant for improving resilience to seismic risk” was signed today in the capital. It was signed between the acting representative of the World Bank to Bhutan, Om Bhandari, and the Finance Secretary Lam Dorji. Under the agreement, the government will receive a grant of over US$ one million (1,285, 500) from the World Bank.
It is provided by Japanese government under the Japan policy and human resources development technical assistance program to support disaster reduction and recovery.
The objective of the project is to improve the understanding of earthquake risk in Bhutan as well as opportunities and challenges associated to its mitigation. The project will be implemented in four years’ time and is scheduled to complete by May 2017.
