DPT--CampaignDruk Phuensum Tshogpa’s (DPT) President, Jigmi Y.Thinley, met with the Party’s supporters and coordinators of Trongsa Dzongkhag, yesterday, even as DPT launched its campaign, officially.

During the interaction with the people, the president urged them to choose the right party. Jigmi Y.Thinley also said, if elected, the DPT government will further focus on poverty reduction. He also said the Party will focus on tourism development, public transport and rural development, among others.

“When you elect a candidate, never think you are giving that person power and position,” said Jigmi Y.Thinley, “never think you are promoting that person to a high rank for high perks and privileges.”

The Party President also implored to the people of Trongsa to not let the politics create a rift in the community. “Older people advise the youth, so that in their enthusiasm, no seed of discord is sown,” said Jigmi Y.Thinley.

DPT had flagged off their campaign from Trongsa in 2008 elections as well.

By evening, the Party President was in Bumthang, where he spoke for over an hour.

“People of Bumthang Dzongkhag showed a good example and maturity during the previous elections and I hope it will be the same time,” said Jigmi Y.Thinley.

He also spoke about the disqualification of Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party. “DPT and other three parties tried our best and we did appeal to the Election Commission of Bhutan to allow the Party to contest but unfortunately it could not be done.”

He added people still have tough choice to make with four parties around. “I hope you will cast your vote after a clear understanding.”
