BKP--Out-of-the-2013-Elections.The Election Commission of Bhutan rejected the Letter of Intent of Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party, today.

The release from the ECB says the party could not be accepted as it did not have any candidate-designate for both constituencies of Gasa Dzongkhag. It also says the Party had only two individuals in the Dzongkhag as its registered members of which one was not even a registered voter.

However, the release states that the status of Bhutan Kyen-Nyam Party as a registered Political Party shall remain unchanged.

“I am overwhelmed and heartbroken but the game is not over,” said BKP’s President Sonam Tobgay, who was in BBS studio.

Sonam Tobgay said Gasa has been a difficult constituency in terms of securing formidable candidates. “It’s not that we haven’t tried. I have been looking for candidates in Gasa since 2010.”

The Party President also said scrutiny process needs to look just beyond fulfilling 47 seats. He said he would like to appeal to the authorities to assess if the scrutiny process of the candidates for the first round of elections is really necessary.

The Party had made its intention to contest in the elections public earlier in June, last year. “This is not the end,” said Sonam Tobgay.
