Police officer suspended over alleged involvement in bribery case

phuntsholing-police-bRIBERYA Traffic Officer-in-Command in Phuentsholing has been suspended following alleged involvement in a bribery case, last week.

The police officer is accused of having accepted bribes to manipulate the weight of a consignment belonging to an Indian national, who has also been detained.

The Chief of Police said an investigation was carried out following a tip-off, which confirmed the officer’s involvement.

The Police also suspect involvement of several other stakeholders.

Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel said further investigations are being carried by a team comprising of officials from the Traffic Police, RSTA and the Regional Revenue and Customs in Phuentsholing.
