The Bumthang Police arrested a 25-year-old man in Jalikhar for supposedly impersonating as an election official, yesterday.
A woman, whom the man had taken shelter from, suspected him to a fake official and had informed the Jalikhar Tshogpa who in turn informed the Thromdey Thuemi. The Thromdey Thuemi had alerted the Bumthang police.
The Bumthang Police shared that the same man had cheated a few hotels on April 12 by pretending to be a researcher from the Department of Culture. He had disappeared without making any payments.
He had also evidently conned several people and hotels in places like Trongsa, Zhemgang, Phuentsholing and even in Thimphu, repeatedly.
The Bumthang Police said the man will be charged for impersonating an official and is liable to be sentenced under misdemeanor with imprisonment of a minimum of one year and a maximum of less than three years.
