Michael Rutland, Esq OBE, who was the Bhutanese Honorary Consul in the United Kingdom for the last six years, has been appointed the first British Honorary Consul in Bhutan. He told BBS that it is a great honour for him to be serving in this capacity.
He underlined that this new development is historically significant not only because of the appointment, but also because it is the first time a P5 country- a permanent member of the UN security council has appointed an Honorary Consul in Bhutan. He added that the UK has attached tremendous importance to Bhutan’s geopolitical role in South Asia with the appointment.
