GewogZomdu-SJThe Gewog Zomdus for the nomination of candidates for the upcoming National Council elections are in full swing in Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. The first Zomdu was held last Saturday in Dewathang Gewog. It was followed by another Zomdu in Phuntshothang Gewog under Samdrupcholing Dungkhag, yesterday.

A 10 day schedule has been worked out to hold zomdus in all the 11 gewogs of the dzongkhag. During the first gewog zomdu in Dewathang, the Dzongkhag Election and gewog officials shared election procedures with the people.

They also stressed on the importance of voting, and electing the right person as their leader. The people attending the zomdus appeared involved in the upcoming elections, but when probed, most seem to be under the impression that their national council candidate has the same role as the candidate in the national assembly.

Phuntshothang Gewog zomdu has nominees. The people gathered had to sign a declaration saying they did not have a candidate before heading home.

Voters were briefed on the roles their elected leaders at the meeting by election officials.
