A court ruling does not always mean the end of a case. For victims awaiting compensation, justice is served only when the money ordered by the court is actually recovered. The Office of the Attorney General recovered and restituted Nu 36.65 M during the last financial year.
According to the OAG’s Annual Report 2025–2026, the Property and Judgment Enforcement Division handled 1,101 court judgments during the reporting period. It achieved an enforcement rate of 56 per cent and recovered more than Nu 36 M. The money was then restituted to the government, financial institutions and victims, as ordered by the courts.
Of the total amount recovered, Nu 2.02 M was restituted to the State, more than Nu 2.5 M to private citizens, Nu 29.16 M to financial institutions, and Nu 2.96 M to private agencies.
The Office of the Attorney General identifies growing workloads and human resource constraints as challenges. Demand for legal services is outpacing staffing levels and contributing to heavier workloads, case backlogs, and longer processing times.
The Property and Judgment Enforcement Division had nine active staff during the reporting year.
The office received 1,014 cases from July last year until the end of June this year. So far, 366 cases have been closed, 260 are under trial, 111 have been returned, 263 are under review, and 14 have been appealed.
