More than 10 Bhutanese have already been recruited by companies operating in the city’s digital assets and fintech ecosystem. Gelephu Mindfulness City officials say this is only the beginning, with opportunities expected to grow across a wide range of professions.
The first hires have already been made, and GMC officials say as more companies set up, many more jobs are expected to follow in the city’s digital assets.
Digital assets are things that exist electronically and can be owned or traded, such as cryptocurrencies, digital shares, tokenised property and carbon credits.
However, the opportunities are not limited to programmers or technology experts.
Officials say companies will need people with skills in finance, law, business, communications, marketing, administration, hospitality and customer service. There will also be opportunities for accountants, designers, project managers, entrepreneurs and local artisans as new businesses expand in the city.
They say students from different academic backgrounds can find opportunities, depending on the role and the employer.
Good communication, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability and critical thinking are among the skills companies in GMC value most.
For those interested in technology, demand is also expected to grow for blockchain developers, cybersecurity specialists, data analysts and financial engineers.
To help young people prepare, GMC has started meeting with university students who are close to graduating to explain the kinds of jobs that are emerging. It is also reaching out to Bhutanese studying and working overseas, hoping to encourage them to return and contribute their experience.
Officials say the message to young Bhutanese is simple: start preparing now. Learn about the digital economy, strengthen both technical and workplace skills, and be ready for opportunities as the city continues to grow.
