Mothithang Higher Secondary School has been crowned the girls’ champion, while Punakha Central School secured the boys’ title at the School Volleyball Cup in Thimphu. The tournament brought together 40 schools from across the country, giving young players a platform to showcase their talent.
Punakha Central School claimed the boys’ title after defeating Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School of Thimphu 3–1 in the final. The match featured rallies and strong teamwork from both sides before Punakha sealed the championship.
Punakha Central School reached the final after beating Pema Gatshel’s Nganglam Central School in the semi-finals. Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School secured their place by overcoming Mothithang Higher Secondary School of Thimphu. Nganglam Central School finished third.
In the girls’ category, Mothithang Higher Secondary School secured the championship with a 3–nil win over Pema Gatshel’s Nangkor Central School in the final.
Mothithang Higher Secondary School advanced to the final with a semi-final win over Peljorling Higher Secondary School of Samtse. Nangkor Central School booked their place after defeating Chundu Armed Force Public School in Haa. Peljorling Higher Secondary School finished third.
The tournament featured boys’ teams from 27 schools and girls’ teams from 13 schools. The players say it gave young athletes valuable competitive experience while promoting teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
According to the Bhutan Volleyball Federation, the School Volleyball Cup also serves as a talent identification platform.
Outstanding players will be considered for future national team selection.
