MangdechhuProject-transmission-lines-work-to-begin-soonWork on the construction of power transmission lines from the Mangdechhu project to Jimiling in Gelephu will begin soon. The Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC), officially, handed over the transmission sites to Kalpatru power transmission limited, an Indian company, in Trongsa, yesterday.

The contract for the 400 kilowatt power transmission line was awarded to Kalpatru Power Transmission Limited, last month. The power line will stretch from Yurmu in Trongsa where the Mangdichhu power house is located till Jimiling in Gelephu covering over 80 kilometres.

During the meeting between the contractor and the Bhutan power corporation, yesterday, it was said that the power transmission lines will be a double line circuit so that no power failures occur during the breakage of any line. Officials from the Bhutan power corporation also said affected people will be compensated, accordingly.

“If there is a crop damage we do the crop compensation, or if the tower comes in paddy field and comes more than 10 decimal then we acquire it or we compensate as per the government rules,” said BPC’s director, Gem Tshering. He said if the owner needs the land substitution they inform the concern authorities.

Gem Tshering added that the power line will go through Goling in Zhemgang so that the upcoming Chamkharchhu line can be joined at Goling at a later stage.

The meeting also saw discussion on the employment of several hundred graduates from technical training institutes once the project begins.

The BPC director mentioned that rope ways, helicopters, and spider excavators will be used because of the rugged terrain.

The Kalpatru Power Transmission Company was awarded the construction at a cost of Nu.5, 489 million. The works are to be completed within a 48 month period.
