The third edition of the Haa Spring Festival opened yesterday at the Yangthang ground in Haa. Her Majesty Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck graced the occasion.
The three-day festival brings together the distinct cultural traditions of the valley – from sacred rituals and ancient dances to nature-based activities. It aims to further strengthen Haa’s position as one of Bhutan’s most compelling tourism destinations.
Among the highlights of the opening day was a theatrical performance depicting the life of Ap Chundue, the valley’s guardian deity. Audiences also witnessed a beauty contest for elderly women that celebrated the grace and cultural wisdom that has defined Haa for generations.
The festival concludes on Thursday.
