Gelephu Mindfulness City never stops inspiring people at home and abroad. It is evident from the thousands joining its voluntary programmes each time. While many regret missing the opportunity, this group of Bhutanese from Australia chose not to be part of that. They are coming home to contribute.

A group of about 150 Bhutanese in Australia have left for Bhutan. They will be here for the 6th batch of the voluntary programme in Gelephu Mindfulness City.

‘‘We have almost 155 volunteers who will be physically going to GMC for the volunteer work. And then at the same time, even in the financial contribution, people are voluntarily contributing a huge amount. We were able to generate 66,000 plus AUD, and still we are receiving lots of contributions,’’ said Kinley Tenzin, President, ABPI.

While the majority of participants are based in Western Australia, this initiative has also gathered Bhutanese across various states in Australia.

‘‘It’s a collective effort of Bhutanese living in Australia. When we started with the coordination team for the GMC volunteering service, we thought that not everyone was privileged to go to the GMC personally. So that’s why we thought we really need to create a platform where all the Bhutanese, especially the diaspora Bhutanese, can participate meaningfully in this noble initiative,” added Kinley Tenzin, President, ABPI.

The five-day programme begins on Friday.

As diaspora contribute to the GMC, the initiative shows a strong sense of unity and a shared commitment to national development.
