The New Year brings a higher risk of fire-related disasters, but good news for farming, as timely rainfall is expected throughout the year. The Bhutanese New Year, the Fire Male Horse Year, began on the first day of the 11th lunar month last month.
According to the Pangrizampa College of Astrology, the Fire Male Horse Year is associated with an increased risk of fire-related incidents. People have been advised to remain cautious to prevent such disasters.
“This year, among the four elements of Jungwa Zhi, the fire element is dominant, increasing the risk of fire-related disasters. Although rituals are being conducted across the country, they alone are not enough. People must also remain cautious,” said Phub Dorji, a teacher, Pangrizampa College of Astrology.
Astrologers say the year is good for starting new ventures for women born in the Female Water Sheep year, aged 24, and the Female Earth Sheep year, aged 48.
However, those born in the Horse, Rat, Tiger, and Dog years are advised to be cautious, as the year is considered unlucky for them. The college recommends performing rituals for these birth years to avoid misfortunes.
Meanwhile, the sixth and twelfth months of the Bhutanese calendar are considered the most inauspicious. Astrologers advise avoiding the start of new activities during these periods.
Apart from the high risk of fire-related disasters, it is predicted to be a good year overall.
