Residents of Brumi-Chidungkhar Chiwog in Gomdar Gewog, Samdrup Jongkhar, can look forward to a smoother and more comfortable commute as six kilometres of the chiwog road are being blacktopped. The road improvement work is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and ensure safer transportation for residents, especially during the monsoon.

A portion of the Chiwog road leading to schools and other critical infrastructure is being blacktopped.

The blacktopping work is ongoing on the road from Barzor Primary School to Sangshing Yoe.

Sangay Dorji, a resident of Gomdar Gewog said, “We can notice a huge difference after the road is blacktopped. Earlier, the road had many potholes, and it took about one hour to reach the hospital. Now, it takes only around 30 minutes.”

Currently, about five kilometres of the road have been blacktopped, and the remaining one kilometre is expected to be completed over the next two days.

For years, villagers have faced difficulties due to dusty and muddy road conditions, affecting daily travel and access to schools, and the gewog centre.

“It will be much more convenient once the road is blacktopped. Earlier, we had to live with dust, but now the blacktopping work is underway,” said Samten Wangmo, a resident of Gomdar Gewog.

Once complete, the road will benefit over 235 households in Gomdar Gewog.

“With potholes and mud, it was difficult for vehicles to ply. Now, it is much more convenient,” added Decehen Lhaden, another resident of Gomdar.

The six-kilometre stretch is being upgraded at a cost of more than Nu 20 M to improve connectivity and ease transportation for residents.
