Thousands of devotees have gathered in Samtse to attend the Peling Choekhor transmission and empowerment that started on Thursday. Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche is presiding over the 45-day spiritual ceremony.

The Peling Choekhor Wanglung is an oral transmission of the profound teachings, lineage, and spiritual practices of Terton Pema Lingpa, the great Bhutanese Buddhist master and treasure revealer.

This sacred doctrine holds historical significance for the community. In 1974, the same transmission was bestowed at this very location in Samtse by Dudjom Rinpoche. Among the many lamas, trulkus, and rinpoches present at that time was a young Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, who received the teachings as a child.

Khenpo Gembo of the Lhodrak Kharchu Monastery in Bumthang said, “Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche received the transmission from Dudjom Rinpoche in the same place here.  Devotees are seated on the grounds of Samtse College of Education, while His Eminence presides from the same residence behind the grounds where he once received the transmission.”

The Peling Choekhor carries prayers for the peace and long life of Their Majesties and the Royal Family, and for the harmony and prosperity of all sentient beings.
