Bhutanese cricket witnessed a historic moment today as Namgay Thinley became the first player from the country to score a T20 International century. His record-breaking knock laid the foundation for Bhutan’s win in the second match of the Bhutan–Myanmar T20 International Bilateral Series in Gelephu.

The crucial moment of the match belonged to 21-year-old Namgay Thinley from Trashigang, who was batting with supreme confidence and in imperious form.

Sitting on 99 runs, Namgay needed just one run to become the first Bhutanese batter to score a T20 International century.

A single run was enough, and with it, he completed a historic hundred for the national team.

Namgay Thinley said, “I have been playing cricket for the last seven years, and to have achieved this milestone, I feel happy. And my teammates are also happy. I would continue to work hard and play cricket.”

Namgay’s brilliant 100 off 46 balls, laced with 10 fours and 7 sixes, powered Bhutan to a historic total. Likewise, for the first time ever, Bhutan posted a massive T20 International score of 217 runs, setting a new national benchmark.

Chasing a big target, Myanmar struggled against tight Bhutanese bowling and failed to get close to the required score. Bhutan sealed a convincing 120-run victory, showing their dominance on home ground.

This win marks Bhutan’s second victory of the series, putting the hosts just one win away from sealing the title. The next match will be played the day after tomorrow, where a victory will crown Bhutan as series champions.
