Her Majesty Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck launched three initiatives observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in the capital yesterday. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening the response to gender-based violence, improving workplace safety, and celebrating women’s empowerment.  Members of the Royal Family also attended the event.

Her Majesty Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck, the president of RENEW, launched the SOP for the Prevention and Response to Sexual Harassment in the Civil Service. It reinforces zero tolerance for sexual harassment.

According to RENEW officials, the new SOP introduces clearer reporting procedures and support services to ensure safe and respectful workplaces across the civil service.

Her Majesty the Queen Mother also launched a revised SOP for the Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence, updated to address emerging challenges.

The revised SOP strengthens a coordinated, survivor-centred response to gender-based violence across the country.

Her Majesty unveiled RENEW’s couture brand, “YŪM”, inspired by the strength and resilience of Bhutanese women.

The event concluded with a special “YŪM” ramp walk, showcasing the new designs.

The event was held to mark the 70th birthday of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, whose leadership laid the foundation for gender equality and the welfare of women and girls

The event also marked Bhutan’s participation in the global 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence, where advocacies and campaigns focusing on digital safety and respectful online engagement will be conducted across the country.
