His Royal Highness Gyaltsab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck graced the Passing Out Parade at the Gyalpozhing Gyalsung Academy in Monggar. At the same time, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay attended the ceremony at Jamtsholing in Samtse. In Wangdue Phodrang’s Khotokha, the Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army, Lieutenant General Batoo Tshering, joined the ceremony, while in Pemathang, Samdrup Jongkhar, the Chairperson of the Royal Privy Council, Lyonpo Dr Tandin Dorji was present.

Lopens of the Central Monastic Body, cabinet ministers, senior officers of the Armed Forces, government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps attended the simultaneous ceremonies held at the four academies, where families of the 1,992 Gyalsups also joined to celebrate their milestone and rite of passage.

The Second Cohort of the 2025 batch included 31 young Bhutanese who returned from abroad to undergo Gyalsung Training, reflecting the strong patriotism and support for this national service among Bhutanese families at home and overseas. The three-month integrated training, which began on 1st August this year, combined Basic Military Training with courses in National Education, Bhutanese History, Domestic Security, Choesay Larim, and Leadership Development. With the completion of this cycle, 8,322 Gyalsups have now been trained.

Following the Passing Out Parade, the Gyalsups enter the National Duty Phase, during which they may be mobilised for national programmes and projects, including the Gyalsung Skilling Programme, the Desuung Skilling Programme, and development initiatives such as the Gelephu Mindfulness City and the construction of Gyalsung Academies.

Gyalsups from earlier cohorts have already rendered their services in national events and humanitarian efforts, including the relief mission to assist earthquake-affected communities in Myanmar in March this year.

The 2026 batch will follow a similar training framework, with the first cohort scheduled to begin on 2nd March next year.
