As the BOB Bhutan Premier League 2025 nears its end, all eyes are on the season’s top individual honours. They will be revealed during the final match between Thimphu City FC and BFF Academy on Wednesday. The Golden Boot race is attracting the most attention, with Kinzang Tenzin of RTC FC leading with 20 goals.

Among the awards, the Golden Boot is awarded to the league’s top goal scorer, determined solely by the total number of goals scored during the season. In case of a tie, the player with fewer matches played ranks higher, followed by assists as the next tiebreaker.

This season, RTC’s 20-year-old striker Kinzang Tenzin from Samdrup Jongkhar leads the race, having played 13 matches. His goal tally means he has averaged over 1.5 goals per match this season.

Trailing Kinzang, Evans Asante of Paro FC has netted 18 goals, while Dawa Tshering of Thimphu City follows closely with 17 goals with a game in hand. Both Evans and Dawa have featured in 16 matches each this season.

Kinzang, a second-year student at the Royal Thimphu College, began his football journey as a school player in 2016.

“When I was in class five, my brother used to play football for the district team, and watching him made me want to play like him. So I took part in the school and district level selections, and from there, I was selected as a player to compete in the tournament at Gelephu. After that, in 2018, I was selected for the national junior team.”

Since joining the Bhutan Football Academy in 2019, Kinzang has represented Bhutan in several international tournaments, including the SAFF and AFC championships.

He has played in the BOB Bhutan Premier League with several clubs. In 2023, he made his senior national team debut, representing Bhutan at the Tri-Nation Cup in Nepal.

“My exemplary idol is Cristiano Ronaldo. He is famous for his hard work and discipline. I have followed his example, and when I was in the Academy, I used to train on my own. After completing my time at the BFF Academy, I joined RTC. Since then, I have played in the BPL, and in 2025, I currently have the highest number of goals. This achievement is not mine alone, it is thanks to all my teammates and the management.”

As the league draws to a close, young talents like Kinzang Tenzin continue to shine, a promising sign that Bhutan’s next generation of footballers could take the sport to greater heights.
